Tawau: The BEC Core Group of Holy Trinity Church organized the Asian Integral Pastoral Approach (AsIPA) Echo workshop on 15 February 2011. Some 40 participants from the various pastoral committees and Catholic Women Apostolate as well as pastoral council members attended the session.
Msgr. Nicholas Ong rector of HTC, Julita Kantod and Sr. Liza Augustine fsic who attended the AsIPA workshop on BEC in Pataya, Thailand last year shared their experiences.

The session began at 8.30 am with the proclamation of the Gospel and an Opening Prayer. This was followed by an input session by Julita and Sr Liza fsic who gave an insight to the following:
  1. AsIPA, BEC and Small Christian Communities (SCC) in general
  2. Importance of BECs in community building T
  3. The difference between Bible study and Bible sharing,
  4. The 7 steps of Bible sharing and
  5. The Bible Mirror approach.

    This was followed by group discussions on the strengths and weaknesses of BECs let by Sr. Tauria Taurin fsic, Sr. Liza Augustine fsic, Sr. Marysia Malating fsic, Julita Kantod and Gabriel Nunang. They also discussed on the problems encountered by BECs and to find ways to keep BECs going.
     

    The workshop had led the participants to have a better understanding of the concept of BECs as the main pastoral thrust of the Sandakan Diocese. BECs if sustained and allowed to flourish through the commitment of the people in making it a way of life can make a difference  in renewing the Church and transforming the local Catholic society.
    The Core Group willl hold  a Leadership seminar for all BECs’ coordinators within this year.
