Sandakan, 26 November 2025 — In conjunction with the Solemnity of Christ, Our Universal King, a joyful and meaningful Commissioning Mass for 180 parish carolers was held on 23 November 2025 at the St Joseph Church. The celebration gathered caroling groups from St Mary’s Cathedral Parish Sandakan and was coordinated by the Parish Caroling Committee. The Mass was presided over by Parish Priest Rev. Fr. David A. Garaman, who reminded the carolers that they are like pilgrims on a holy journey. He explained that commissioning is not just a ceremony, but a true sending-forth for mission as they proclaim the birth of Christ, the King.

Fr. David encouraged the carolers to sing prayerfully and with reverence, to understand the meaning behind the Christmas hymns, and to treat every home visit as an opportunity to bring blessings. He emphasized that entering people’s homes is a privilege, and that each encounter becomes a blessing for both the families and for the carolers themselves. He also expressed his gratitude to all the groups for their time, effort and commitment and prayed that the carolers would have a safe and blessed pilgrimage, bringing Christ’s message of joy and peace to every household. In response, the carolers declared their willing commitment and readiness to be evangelizers of the Good News through their Christmas caroling ministry.

Following the mass, a recollection for the Carolers was held at the St. Joseph’s Church hall, followed by fellowship. The carolers were reminded that caroling is a joyful mission, through which they become missionaries of Christmas cheer, sharing Christ’s love with every home they visit. Through harmony and teamwork, the unity of the Church is reflected. Caroling is not about pitch perfect but about joy and humility; it is an act of service, offering time and presence without expecting anything in return. When Carolers sing with love of Christ and from the heart, their carols become prayers that uplift others. In this way, caroling becomes a living expression of hope, light, faith, and the true spirit of Christmas.
The Parish Caroling Committee also shared words of appreciation, reminding everyone that carolers are called to be prayerful singers, grateful pilgrims, and joyful messengers of Christ’s peace.
