Abhijit Dasgupta, acting Country Director, Nessy Rosdiana, the Regional Coordinator of International Catholic Migrant Commission (ICMC) based in Jakarta, Indonesia and Lilian Suiking, Program Assistant of Tenaganita, Tawau on Wednesday 19th August 2009 paid a courtesy visit to Bishop Julius Gitom DD at the Diocesan Office.



They shared their ideas and thoughts about the current situation pertaining to migrant workers and human trafficking issues in Sabah.

Later in the afternoon, the team had the opportunity to meet with members of the St Mary’s Parish Pastoral Council led by Rev Fr Paul Lo, the assistant Cathedral Parish Priest, Sr Lilianna FSIC, Winnie Khoo, Patrick Seah, Phillip Mosinoh, Raymond Wong and Francis Tan at the Diocesan Meeting Room.

The ICMC is an international operating organization of the Catholic Church serving and protecting uprooted people – refugees, displaced persons and migrants, regardless of faith, race, ethnicity or nationality. Currently ICMC is implementing, in partnership with Tenaganita and AHDC (Archdiocese Human Development Commission KK) aimed at spreading awareness of migrants and human trafficking issues through the local churches.

In the round table discussion, they explored ways and means of how the Church could reach out and touch the hearts of the vulnerable especially victims of human trafficking. The local church could be part of the networking system acting as a link to ICMC and Tenaganita.
