Holy Trinity Church, Tawau started celebrating the Easter Triduum with an evening mass on Holy Thursday on 1st April 2010.
In his homily, the celebrant Msgr. Nicholas Ong enlightened the congregation that the 3 -day celebration of the Easter Triduum is one continuous entity, starting with the evening mass of the Lord’s Supper, continuing through the celebration of the Lord’s passion on Good Friday and culminating with the final blessing of Easter Sunday. That is why there is no dismissal at the end of the celebrations on Holy Thursday and Good Friday, he said.
He also added that during the last supper, our Lord Jesus not only instituted the Eucharist, he also instituted the priesthood. This is of special meaning to us as this year is the year of the priests for our Universal Church Further more, this year we have two young parishioners from our parish starting their formation for the priesthood, one in Kota Kinabalu, the other in Singapore
.
On Good Friday, parishioners took part in the devotion of the way of the cross in the church compound in the morning starting at 9am, before returning to the church to participate in the celebration of the Lord’s Passion at 3pm. Due to the overflowing crowd, closed circuit TV was hooked up in the parish hall for those who could not be accommodated in the main church.
Easter Vigil Mass started at 8pm on Holy Saturday with the service of light. This year a total of 62 candidates were baptized and accepted into our church.
Easter eggs provided by the Catholic Women Apostolate were blessed by Msgr. Ong at the end of the mass for distribution
