Tawau : Holy Trinity Parish Tawau celebrated the 33rd Anniversary of Priestly Ordination of their rector Msgr. Nicholas Ong on 2nd October 2011.
Ordained as a priest in 1978 October3rd, and had served at various parishes such as St. Michael Penampang, Stella Maris Tg Aru, Sacred Heart Cathedral, St. Mary’s Cathedral Sandakan, St. Dominic Lahad Datu and currently at Holy Trinity ChurchTawau, Sabah . He was at one time a lecturer at St. Peter’s College (Major Seminary) Kuching.
This is the third year he has been serving as the rector of Holy Trinity Parish. He is dedicated and committed in building communities. Through his support, there are about 40 BECs and most BECs are motivated and inspired by his home visitations.
Fellowship began with a prayer and grace by Fr. David Garaman followed by cutting of the Anniversary cake by Msgr. all religious and PPC members.
Mario Domingo, the PPC Chairman invited all parishioners to give support to who ever the priest sent to Holy Trinity; “to pray for them and to be in obedience. They are the anointed priest who represent the Lord especially in guiding us in our journey to the eternal kingdom of God ”.
In His speech during the occasion, Msgr. thanked God for giving him an opportunity to serve GOD, stressing that as a priest the main obligation is to proclaim the Good News, building community in Christ and the Eucharist. “ for 33 years, God has given me the strength, good health and perseverance to serve at any parish that I am sent to.” He also humbly asked all parishioners to pray for him that God will grant him wisdom and that the “fire in me will not burnt out” especially in proclaiming the Good News and celebrating the Eucharist.
The fellowship lunch was held at the Parish Hall right after the BM Mass. About 600 parishioners came along to celebrate this joyous moment to show their gratitude and giving thanks to the Lord for His love, especially in providing them with an inspiring Priest.
The event was coordinated by the BEC core group team with the collaboration of all BECs. It was an appreciation to Msgr. for his strong support of BECs especially his regular visits to the communities.
The event was lined with stage presentations by the various BECs. Msgr. Nicholas also rendered a song ‘Morning has broken’.
Fellowship ended at 1.00 pm with a closing prayer by Msgr. Nicholas Ong.
