St. Mary’s Cathedral, Sandakan – The day that all catechumens await had arrived after 2 years of the pandemic. On this special Saturday morning 8th April 2023, they will be receiving Ephphatha (Be opened in Aramaic word) from Assistant Parish Priest, Rev. Fr Raymond Lee in preparation for them to receive the Sacrament of Initiation during the night of the Easter Vigil.
In his homily, Fr Raymond shared that it is the beginning of the journey to becoming a Catholic. He added that the catechumens should reinforce their faith while remaining close to the church.
There are 35 candidates attended: 18 is from BM class (1 candidate for Baptism and Holy Communion, 7 candidates for Holy Communion and Confirmation and 10 candidates will receive Full Initiations). 8 candidates from Chinese class (2 candidates for Baptism only, 2 candidates for Baptism and Holy Communion, 2 candidates for Holy Communion and Confirmation, 3 candidates will receive Full Initiations). 8 candidates from English class (1 candidate for Baptism only, 2 candidates for Holy Communion and confirmation and 5 candidates will receive Full initiation). There were also six candidates from other denominations accepted to become a Catholics.
