Sandakan : Close to 200 faithful gathered at St Mary’s Cathedral, Tuesday 8th December 2009 to celebrate the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception which celebrates Mary’s conception, without sin is a uniquely Catholic feast.

The holy mass was con celebrated by Fr Thomas Makajil, the rector, Fr Peter Kim of the Major Seminary, Yangon, Myanmar and Fr Jasery, the assistant rector of St Dominic’s Church, Lahad Datu.

In his homily, Fr Thomas said that the challenge of this feast is for all faithful to live lives like Mary. Mary, aware that the grace of God was at work in her, lived a life of obedience to God’s will. She remained sinless until the very end. He stressed that faithful, too, must strive to live a good life and seek always the will of God in our lives.

After the Eucharistic celebration, the faithful adjourned to the Parish Hall for a fellowship dinner hosted by the Franciscan Sister of the Immaculate Conception and the Convent girls of St Mary’s Convent.
