Sandakan : On the 6th day of the IFFAsia mission project here in the St Mary’s Cathedral Parish 6th February 2011, the participants had the opportunity to put into practice the social skill they learnt at the institute. They blended well with the local community, interacting cordially with the local youth at a fellowship gathering.
The BEC of Taman Indah Jaya established about a year ago hosted a welcoming fellowship for all participants of IFFAsia together with their foster parents at John Tan’s residence. Some 100 people were present at the welcoming fellowship.The guest of honor, Rev Thomas Makajil, rector of St Mary’s Cathedral, Rev David Garaman, Sr Appollonia fsic, Seminarian Martin Steven and John Baptis, the PPC Chairman were present at the function.
Leonnie Deggullacion, the Chairman of the BEC in his opening address welcomed the participants, the foster parents and all guests to the fellowship meal. Over a meal there’s an incredible opportunity to interact informally and to discuss life, traditions, history, cultures, family ~ such exchange will build up relationship.
He said, ‘Your presence here this evening is an opportunity for our youth to see the value of being one in Christ, committed to serve in His vineyard. I hope they will emulate the spirit of the young leaders of IFFAsia coming across Asia’.
The students, interns, staff and resource person of IFFAsia took turns to introduce themselves according to their country of origin ~ Phillippines, China, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, Malaysia and Zambia (Africa).
Both the young leaders of IFFAsia and the local youth of the BEC presented a few lively and entertaining songs and dances after the meal. The IFFAsia staff also presented an oldie love song in Tagalog to the delight of all present.
