Sandakan: In conjunction with the Lenten season, The Star of Yahweh Covenant Community (SYCC) organised a retreat themed “Following the Passion of Christ” on 23rd – 24th March 2012 at Room A and B of St. Mary’s Cathedral Parish Hall. Over 50 parishioners attended the two-day retreat conducted by Daniel Kong and Anthony Lim, both elders of the Light of Jesus Christ Covenant Community (LJCCCC) of Kota Kinabalu.

The rector of St Mary’s Cathedral, Fr. Thomas Makajil graced the opening of the retreat and he hoped that through such retreat the participants would gain a deeper understanding of the Passion of Christ. He called upon the participants to give their all to the retreat. It is through personal reflection and meditation  that one would be able to search deep into one’s soul, experience conversion and bringing out the best of one’s personal life. The rector also took the opportunity to acknowledge the contribution of the LJCCC in the Paitan Mission initiated by the LJCCC some 25 years ago.

The retreat was based on a four-part reflection series on the Mel Gibson’s epic film “The Passion of Christ”, produced by Trinity Formation Resources founded by Dr. Tom Curran of Washington USA. In this series, Dr. Tom Curran reveals four central themes portrayed in the movie to be reflected on;

  1. Living your mission with passion
  2. The Path of conversion of discipleship
  3. Revealing the nature of sin and evil
  4. The passion of God’s saving love (Mass)
After the discussion on the four central themes, Anthony Lim shared on the last 7 words uttered by Jesus for in-depth reflection and personal sharing. LJCCC will be heading for Holy Trinity Churchin Tawau to conduct a similar retreat next weekend. The retreat ended at 9.30 pm with light refreshment at the canteen.
