SANDAKAN,Saturday, 8 December, 2012. The yearly Children Christmas Party organized by St Mary’s Cathedral Catholic Women’s Apostolate, was celebrated at St. Mary’s Parish Hall. Some 150 children aged 2 – 12, joined the gathering in celebrating the festive season.
According to the Chief Organizer, Cecelia D’Souza, the event is aimed to bring about awareness among children the joy of Christmas in its true sense ~ a celebration to commemorate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. Such an important spiritual event need to be inculcated into the heart and mind of our children so that as they grow up their faith may deepened. She also hoped that CWA could organize many more meaningful programs in this, the Year Of Faith especially those geared towards nurturing our children to be future spiritual leaders.
The event started at 2.00 pm with an Opening Prayer led by Rev Fr. Thomas Makajil, the rector of the Cathedral. Also in attendance was the
Making the event more colourful, 10 programs were prepared for the children to take part and enjoy. First on the list was the dance performance which had provided the children the opportunity to express their dancing talent. Furthermore, the ‘gangnam’ style performance attracted much participation from the children as young as two years old.
Other programs of the day included the children fashion show for Mr and Miss Christmas 2012, a variety of games for different age categories and the climax was the announcement of Master Christmas and Miss Christmas 2012. However, the crowned Master Christmas was too shy to the camera man while the Miss Santa was very proud to show what she had received.
Christmas without Santa Claus would be incomplete. For, Santa represents joy and the giving spirit of the season. The appearance of Santa in the hall brought more cheers to the children as he went about delivering goodies to them.
Meanwhile the accompanying parents were not left out as mere spectators. Among the programs, was a slot for lucky draw especially for adults. The following pictures show some of the scene during the event.
The program ended at aroud four o’clock in the afternoon with a Closing Prayer. The effort of the Catholic Women’s Apostolate is to be commended.
