A total of 86 young people, ages 15 to 17, from the three language groups of our Sunday School joyfully received the Sacrament of Confirmation on 15 November 2025 during a beautiful Mass celebrated by Rt. Rev. Bishop Julius Dusin Gitom. The celebration was filled with the joy of catechists, sponsors, parents, and the parish community— all grateful to witness a new generation strengthened and empowered by the Holy Spirit.

After two years of formation in Levels 9 and 10 following the Malaysian Catechetical Series syllabus, Book 10 marks the final stage of preparation. It focuses on Confirmation, the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit, and the call to be witnesses of Christ, sharing the Good News of salvation and God’s great love. The catechists guided the candidates not only in doctrine but also in building a strong foundation of faith, one they hope will sustain these youths until the day Christ returns. One catechist shared that she felt moved and relieved to accompany the young people “more deeply” all the way to their Confirmation, trusting that the seeds of faith planted in them will continue to grow.

In his homily, Bishop Julius expressed his joy at seeing the candidates dressed in white, a sign of purity and readiness to be strengthened by the Holy Spirit.  He invited them to reflect deeply on the sacrament and the grace they were about to receive, reminding them that the Holy Spirit comes with Seven Gifts, whose fruitfulness depends on how each young person chooses to live them out. He explained that wisdom helps them see life from God’s perspective and respond with love and responsibility, while understanding enables them to recognise God’s purpose, especially in times of disappointment or unanswered prayers. The gift of counsel guides them to make good decisions and share God’s Word with others, whether in Sunday School,  at school, in the workplace, or wherever the Lord sends them. Fortitude gives courage and strength to remain steadfast in trials, knowing that God is always with them.  Knowledge helps them appreciate the truth of their faith and recognise God’s hand in all things. Piety deepens their devotion, trust, and affection toward God, and fear of the Lord is not about being afraid, but about reverence, humility, and a desire never to offend God’s love.

Bishop Julius reminded them that after being strengthened by the Holy Spirit, every young Christian is called to bear witness to the Good News. A true disciple “cannot bear the thought of seeing friends without salvation” and is moved by the Spirit to share Christ with others.  Before concluding, Bishop Julius thanked the catechists for their dedication, the sponsors and parents for their love and support, and the choir for uplifting the celebration with beautiful hymns.

May these newly confirmed youths continue to grow in faith, courage, and love as they walk with the Holy Spirit.

Voices of Faith: Reflections from Our Newly Confirmed Youths

After years of Sunday School formation, our young candidates reflected on their journey to Confirmation, sharing how the Sacrament has deepened their faith and strengthened their connection with God. Together, these young people remind us that Confirmation is not only a personal encounter with the Holy Spirit but also a call to live faithfully, serve joyfully, and witness God’s love in every aspect of life.

Arianne Amanda Fung, 17, shared that she felt closer to God after being confirmed and experienced a deep sense of joy. She reflected that while Confirmation was not the only expectation, having learned so much about the Bible and the Holy Trinity in Sunday School, receiving the gifts of the Holy Spirit made her happy and strengthened her faith, helping her to remain steadfast in the Church. She sees Jesus in her prayers and in her service as a church warden, feeling proud and blessed to contribute to the parish community.

Bryan Dee, 15, described his Confirmation as a meaningful milestone, a combination of excitement and responsibility. The Sacrament made him feel more connected to God and the Church, reminding him that the Holy Spirit guides and strengthens him. He believes Confirmation empowers him to be a better member of the Church, encouraging him to serve others and live his faith fully. Bryan sees Jesus in his family, friends, teachers, and church community, and in the guidance and peace he receives during life’s challenges. Serving as an altar server and church warden has given him a profound appreciation for responsibility, humility, and the joy of serving others.

Michael Liaw Yung Leong, 16, Confirmation brought happiness, gratitude, and a deeper sense of peace. The Holy Spirit has drawn him closer to Jesus and inspired him to share the Good News, while his Sunday School lessons have strengthened his understanding and commitment as a confirmed Catholic of the Church.

Fabian Jerome Franky, 17- reflected with pride on his Confirmation and how it has shaped his life. He shared that the sacrament has helped him become a better member of the Church by opening opportunities to serve, beginning as an altar server since April 2022. “Serving near the altar made me feel so special and spiritually closer to God,” he said.

He welcomed the guidance of the Holy Spirit and cherished the friendships formed during his Sunday School journey. Fabian sees Confirmation as a chance to serve in various ministries, warden, choir member, and hopes to further serve as a lector and commentator. Through these acts of service, he aspires to see Jesus in his life, especially during struggles, and to grow into a better person devoted to Him.

Rosebelle Christine Wong, 16, shared her gratitude and pride in her journey. Confirmation, she said, was everything she expected and even more meaningful, as receiving the gifts of the Holy Spirit strengthened her and reminded her that God’s Spirit is always with her. The Sacrament inspires her to live out her faith, serve others, and be a positive example. She sees Jesus in her family, friends, and even strangers, in acts of kindness, and in moments of comfort and guidance. Serving as a church warden has helped her grow in responsibility, foster relationships, and give back to God and the parish community.
