Tawau: Filipino Pastoral Community (FPC) of Holy Trinity Church Tawau is holding Volleyball and Basketball Tournament in conjunction with Feast of Sto Nino De Cebu and FPC 40th Anniversary 2024.
Recitation of the Rosary at the grotto on 30th September as spiritual preparation and in conjunction with the opening of Rosary Month in October before the commencement of the games.
The Tournament started with Volleyball Ladies Category on 1st October 2023. Welcoming speech given by the Coordinator of the event, Mdm Mary Marclyne Rendal and followed by opening speech by FPC Chairlady, Mrs Ma. Belen E. Nokiah. Mdm Coordinator welcomed all officials, invited referees, players and all who came to give support to this game. She also briefly announced to the Filipinos regarding the upcoming competition during Feast of Sto Nino which is the Sinulog Dance Competition, Sto Nino Bearer Competition and Best Filipino Attire/ Costumes.
Mdm Chairlady also emphasized on this year’s theme, ‘Sto. Nino: Our Communion, Our Participation, Our Mission’. She stressed on respect each other during the tournament, respect of the venue (cleanliness) and respect the game. The opening gimmick by the Chairlady was the first serve of the volleyball to officially declare open the Volleyball tournament.
The games comprises of 6 teams, namely the Warriors, Trinity Galz, Infinity, Nazareth Girls and outstation teams, Bombalai VB and St Mary.
There were also stalls selling foods, drinks, souvenirs and preloved items. The tournament ended around 5 pm with Warriors as the champion, followed by St Mary, Trinity Galz and Infinity.
The next tournament will be Volleyball – Men Category on 8th October followed by Basketball Tournament on 15 and 22nd October 2023.
