On the 14th of April 2024 came a blessed and auspicious occasion where the Holy Trinity Church in Tawau had decided to embark on a remarkable journey to establish its very own company of the Boys’ Brigade organisation.
The Holy Trinity Church welcomed this monumental moment by celebrating it in an Open Day event, attended by a diverse assembly of guests, including Boys’s Brigade officers from Sandakan and Kota Kinabalu and an esteemed pastor from a different church. This initiative marks a significant milestone in the Church’s commitment to nurturing and empowering the youth within its community.
The Open Day event commenced with a flourish of performances, showcasing the talent and dedication of the Boys’ Brigade members. From precise drill performances to the stirring melodies of a musical brass band, the audience was treated to a spectacle of skill and teamwork.
The highlight of the event was the official induction of the Boys’ Brigade into the folds of Holy Trinity Church, presided over by the esteemed Rev. Fr. David. With a sense of solemnity and pride, Rev. Fr. David led the ceremony. He himself also conducted the drill inspection during the Guard of Honor, underscoring the importance of discipline and attention to detail.
Another performance which adds to the cultural tapestry of the event was a mesmerising Kadazan dance known as Sumazau, performed by girls from one of the Church’s mission schools, which is the SM Konven St. Ursula, Tawau.
In addition to the performances, the event featured an expo showcasing information, activities and artefacts from the Boys’ Brigade. Attendees had the opportunity to learn more about the organisation’s history, mission, and ongoing initiatives.
For those seeking a more hands-on experience, various activities were available, including an archery game that tested participants’ precision and skill and other games as well.
Moreover, attendees had the opportunity to purchase commemorative buttons as keepsakes to remember the occasion. Alongside this, light refreshments were available for purchase, including soft drinks and ice cream, adding to the festive atmosphere. Complimentary water bottles and snacks were also provided to ensure attendees stayed hydrated and nourished throughout the event.
In conclusion, the Boys’ Brigade Open Day at Holy Trinity Church was a testament to the power of unity, service, and fellowship. As the Boys’ Brigade takes root within the Church, supported by BB officers and chaplains from various congregations, it serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration for the youth, fostering discipline and Christian values of leadership, compassion, and inclusivity. The Boys’ Brigade company in Holy Trinity Church will move forward together with the help from other companies, and they shall remain “Sure and Steadfast” in their commitment to making a positive impact in their community and beyond.
