On the 25th of September 2024, the 5th Tawau Boys’ Brigade Company of Holy Trinity Church in Tawau reached a significant milestone in the journey of the Boys’ Brigade in Malaysia (BBM) as a whole. The Enrollment Service, a time-honoured tradition, served as not only a formal recognition of new and existing members of the 5th Tawau Company as they committed themselves to the values and mission of the Boys’ Brigade but also as a powerful reminder of God’s faithfulness and guidance in shaping young lives as the Boys’ Brigade will continue to inspire its members to grow in faith, character and service, striving to honour God in all their endeavours. This special day was filled with moments of pride, honour, and a deep sense of community.

The event drew notable officers and members from across the region including Boys’ Brigade officers like Captain Raymond and Lieutenant Jerry from 2nd Sandakan Company and State Exco Commissioner Hon. Captain Foo Ming Chung from Kota Kinabalu. There was also Div. Chaplain Rev. Pastor Jackie of Basel Church as well as Captain Richard, Lieutenant David and 5 of their members from 2nd Tawau Company of St. Patrick Church. Their presence, along with the enthusiastic participation of parents, families and the congregation, highlighted the sense of fellowship and support within the BB community.

The Enrollment Service began with a meaningful blessing of the Boys’ Brigade flag by the Company’s Chaplain Rev. Fr. David from the newly established 5th Tawau Company, symbolising the dedication of the company to the BB’s Christian values and service.

Recruit Hazel was promoted to Assistant Junior Leader

Following this, there were promotions given by the Company’s Chaplain Rev. Fr. David within the ranks of the junior members in the company where 2 members were appointed as Assistant Junior Leaders, 1 member was promoted to Junior Leader, and another 1 member achieved the rank of Chief Junior Leader.

There were also promotions given to the senior members where 4 members were promoted to Lance Corporal and 2 members were promoted to Corporal. These promotions underscored the hard work and commitment of the young members, who have shown leadership, discipline and a willingness to serve.

Warrant Officer Liezl was appointed

A notable part of the service was the appointment of 4 officers (8 in total though 4 unable to attend)  to the 5th Tawau Company. Their roles will be crucial in guiding the next generation of BB members, helping to shape their growth, character and involvement in community service.

The climax of the event was the commitment pledging by all members and officers of the 5th Tawau Company. This solemn moment reaffirmed their dedication to the core values of the Boys’ Brigade: discipline, respect and faith in Christ Jesus.

The event concluded with a session for group photos, capturing the memorable day for the 5th Tawau Company and their supporters. This was followed by a time of fellowship with refreshments, where officers, members and families could connect, celebrate and enjoy the spirit of camaraderie.

In conclusion, the 5th Tawau Company’s Enrollment Service was a remarkable success, signalling not only the growth of the company but also the continued strength of the Boys’ Brigade movement in Tawau. As the 5th Tawau Company embarks on another year of service, they are reminded that their strength and courage will always come from the Lord as they look forward to growing together in faith, leadership, and fellowship with Christ as their guide and their Great Captain. May they continue to shine as lights in the world, always rooted in their faith and inspired to make a difference.
