TAWAU: The annual TAWAU INTERCHURCH Christmas Decorations and Lighting Ceremony hosted by the Holy Trinity Catholic Church on 2nd December 2024 at Chester Street marked the beginning of the festive season.

Chairman of the Tawau Churches Committee Rev. Hendrik Linggiallo who was represented by Rev. Fr. David Garaman said the ceremony also celebrates the spirit of unity, brotherhood and kindness that binds us together as a community, regardless of background or beliefs.

He said Christmas is a time when we remember the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, who brought light to a dark world. “And just as the lights we see around us illuminate the night sky, we are also called to be lights in our communities-shining with love, kindness, and compassion for those around us,” he added.

The decorations and lights that everyone see tonight are not just for beauty; they represent the warmth and joy of the season, and are a reminder that even in difficult times, there is still hope, and light will always overcome darkness, he said.

“This evening’s event is a testament to the collaboration and friendship between the churches, local communities, and local authorities who have come together to make this event a reality,” he said.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the host church, Holy Trinity, and the committee members who worked so hard
to create these decorations and then make tonight’s event a reality, Your efforts have made this event a reality, and for that, we are so grateful”.

“Here I would also like to take this opportunity to express my deepest appreciation to several key organisations whose support was invaluable in making tonight’s event a success: Tawau Municipal Council: Thank you for granting permission to the Tawau Churches Committee to decorate the roundabout and create this light display. Your cooperation in helping to bring the Christmas spirit to our community is greatly appreciated.

Public Works Department (JKR): We thank JKR for granting permission to use the road for this decoration and ensuring that the area was safely prepared for this event. Your cooperation and support have played a vital role in realising our vision. Tawau District Police: We would also like to thank the Tawau District Police for ensuring the safety and security of this event. Your presence and attention to safety is a blessing, and we are grateful for your commitment to keeping our community safe throughout this festive season.”

And finally, he thanked everyone who attended, and wished everyone a blessed Merry Christmas! “May the light of Christ shine brightly in our hearts and in our communities, now and forever. God bless you all,” he wished to everyone.
